I've tried. Thinking is not something they want to do. I've even had them write down ideas and brainstorm and told them to throw out the first few items on their lists.....but the items pass the first few are sooooooo bad. They can regurgitate items that a teacher has said in order to sound as if they were paying attention, but it is all surface knowledge and they can't explain anything.
