Ok, here it goes
I have been afraid to say it out loud (and if you knew me, that would be a
first). This is my first year to teach third grade. And in Texas, it's ( 3rd
up) all about the test, whether, anyone wants to admit it or not. I taught
first and second grade for 17 years and needed a TAKS grade to be considered
for an administration job (after I graduate with my masters degree this coming
fall). Now that I am in 3rd, I am always thinking about the test, getting my
kids on grade level to past the test, getting kids not on grade level in
resource, tutoring, tutoring, and more tutoring. The poor kids who need
tutoring are hit coming from all directions. Sort of like this wedding coming
up of my friend, she asked me to be in it 6 months ago. Did I began dieting
then to look good, oh NO... I am crash dieting now right before the diet.
That's how I feel. I DON'T enjoy teaching. I so want to have fun with my kids,
but, I am afraid to let go of all the strategies for the test. I have the best
principal, she continues to tell me that I have to have fun with the kids, but
I also know that she wants great scores. I know what is best and what is
right...but I am still torned

If you mention it to the literacy facilitator, do you think she will help you
replace these maerials? Maybe she could also gently encourage the third grade
to
find new resources for next year (with her help!).
