I am working with ninth graders that are typically coming intoninth grade at a sixth or seventh grade reading level. We are required to read such texts as "The Most Dangerous Game", "The Sniper", Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet (this is hard for them), Fences, Go Ask Alice etc...
We have state standards and state tests that involve listening and then writing, reading informational texts and then writing, reading different genres and then writing, and critical analysis. I work in New York State if that helps.
