The Fountas Pinnell Phonics is built on the basis of linking and word analysis. It goes well with Word Journey's as they lay out a word study continuum. The mini lesson vocabulary builds on the children's developing concepts of print in both reading and writing. The focus is on the semantic, syntactic, and phonological systems of language and how they contribute to literacy learning as the child develops an understanding of the relationships between language and the graphic symbols that represent sounds and words. By no means does this replace comprehension strategies. In fact, Fountas Pinnell have a completely separate text that focuses on Comprehension. Their phonics has 9 categories of learning: Early Literacy Concepts; Phonological Awareness and Phonemic Awareness; Letter Knowledge; Letter/sound relationships; Spelling Patterns, High Freq words; Word Meaning; Word Structure; and Word Solving Actions. I think the F/P phonics is outstanding and well worth the cost. -- Deb G http://www.fabulousfirstgrade.50megs.com/index.html http://geaataglance.ohea.us/
