I find Lori's remarks about inferencing so timely. If more kids understood the inference about their actaul daily work, their comprehension would be soooooo much improved. Like inferencing the purpose of the activity they are doing.... like inferencing about directions.... or even quotes that have the speaker in unexpected places in the quote (say .. in the middle) or even following conversation in text where the speaker is not always identified. Working with my kids this year has brought this home big time to me. Their connections were often off because they inferenced the unimportant or faulty.... which in turn lead their connections astray.
