Sometimes there is a big difference from spring of 2nd to fall of
3rd--summer loss or the way it was scored by the 2nd grade teacher.

Somebody help me with some statistics or research or whatever! I teach 3rd
grade.
I love strategies that work! Mosaic of Thought is one of my "bestest"
resources!!! But, my system requires a DRA assessment for K - 5 grades
both at the beginning of the school year AND at the end. Third grade also
takes the Ohio Achievement test in Oct. to set a benchmark for the final one
in May.
I'm feeling that both DRA's are a bit redundant. Especially the one from
2nd grade spring to end of summer before school for 3rd grade. One should
suffice for growth assessment unless a teacher needs one during some other
time of the year. Does anyone have independent research on DRAs? Is it
really necessary to get the 2nd grade spring score, score them again at the
end of summer before school starts, and then again in the spring? Does
anyone else use this assessment and feel there are BIG differences between
what is done for a 1st grader compared to a 3rd grader? And, what about the
students that have already reached the 6.0 mark? Now what? I'd REALLY be
curious what Ellin would say. I think she is gospel!
If you prefer, you are more than welcome to email me off line.
Have a great summer everyone!
