Rose Blanche is actually a picture book. It is listed in STW as a resource to teach inferring. It is about WWII but if your kids won't be studying WWII until a different grade (our 8th grade studies WWII) it might be a bit hard to get without some background knowledge (so 6th graders might have a hard time). I use it with my 8th graders when teaching inferring as an anchor text.
