  Thanks for your insights. I'm doing a lot of reflecting during this break, 
and am thinking about practices I could improve. I wish I could learn how to 
make this more smooth. My class next year is the class I had the year before 
last when I was teaching second grade. The ability levels are the most diverse 
I've ever taught, so I'm in for the roller coaster again! I remember it was 
very difficult to get them to take responsibility for their own learning, while 
following the path that I set for them. This is why I'm asking this question.
