The comments don't offend-only worry me that blame is wrongly placed. The
scripted programs, basals & core reading programs happened regardless of how
many teachers who might not have deserved it got protection from their union.
It wasn't ineffective principals ...for the most part they'll do whatever they
are told (pressured) to do.

Good union leaders can often be taken for granted. They do a lot behind the
scenes that nobody knows about unless directly involved. I worked in a district
for over 10 years, and all I did was show up to vote for contracts, and make
phone calls around election time. A group of dedicated people worked behind the
scenes every day & another small group bargained for my benefits & raises.

Then I came to the charter school without a union. To make a long story short
we now have a union & I did find out what teaching & being a union leader
involved every day for the first two years of our contract. And, a couple
teachers did not have their contracts renewed by agreement, and the process was
effectively monitored by our union.

Take a look at your district's history. Many of the benefits you receive now
is because previous teachers fought f
>or them.

Yes, I came after the ugliest battles (strikes).
