During the past year, I've been a literacy coach at the secondary level and was able to watch textmapping in action in a variety of classroom settings. Two classes that benefited greatly were a HS vocational math class and a middle school ELL class. The ELL class was a support for regular classroom subjects so the students mapped science and social studies texts. Textmapping increases their subject knowledge, but also allows students of all language levels to actively participate. Besides, the students loved it and asked the teacher to continue with each new chapter! Carol Boyer Washington
