I need to clarify...my students read 30 minutes in just right books during 
readers workshop which is a totally different time from guided.reading. 
This free reading is maybe at max 20 minutes which I was allowing 'choice' 
while I met with my groups.
I also have poetry partners.
I agree with you Lori I want kids tro be able to browse and get excited 
about what is to come:)
