This is my first year to use WTW, but I have seen really good results so far. I
gave the assessment at the beginning of the school year and just gave one at
the beginning of the second 9 weeks to see if there was any progress. Almost
all of my students made improvements, so that was really exciting to me to be
able to see the results of the program. I was also able to reorganize my groups
based on the data from the second assessment. I have four groups: one is
focused on short vowel sounds, one on diagraphs and blends, one on long vowel
sounds and one on inflected endings (I have a very diverse group of learners
this year ... a lot of extremes). I have them bring their word sort cards to
reading groups every day and the first five minutes they do their sorts. One
day I might have them do a speed sort, another day they may pair up with
someone in the group who has the same word list and they may do a "no-peeking"
sort with one another. The parents have been extremely supportive and seem to
like the program, too. I could go on and on about how much I like the program!
I am seeing that it is not only helping their spelling, but also helping in
their decoding and reading. Hope that helps!
