I have the Comprehension Strategies Kit. I teach third grade and found that
the text was too hard at the beginning of the year for most of my students (I
am a reading specialist working with small groups of students who are "at-risk
of not meeting the academic requirements of the state, as determined by test
scores"). So I used it as a resource to plan my lessons with other nonfiction
text that I have available at school (Newbridge books and supplemental books
that go along with the HM reading adoption). It made it easy for me to
implement the ideas of Strategies that Work by having examples all planned out
for me to use as a guide.
Last month, I discovered (and bought) a supplemental book from the program that
has texts for second and third grade. There is also a new kit for K-2. I am
planning to use the 3-5 kit next year, and have even convinced two other third
grade teachers to implement it also. The people that I know that have
implemented the kit absolutely love it. They teach fourth and fifth grade.
