An article which summarizes the research on reading comprehension can be found in the IRA research synthesis book on comprehension. (Think there are two of these different years. I can't remember which. But if you go to the IRA catalog or website you should be able to find it.) Anyway this chapter/article is often cited and one of the best - I used it with my doctoral students. (there is also a great chapter by David Pearson) In it Michael Pressley discusses research which points to using multiple strategies, not just one as having some of the stronger findings. There have been a number of studies combining strategies in various ways. That could be your theoretical rationale for using more than one.
This is in addition to our just as important understandings developed over these years through Ellin's work and the people on this list. While we wouldn't rush through the strategies, we would certainly use a number of them during any given year. If you are doing action research, it is expected that what and how you explore develops over time rather than being set out in a rigid, too specific plan to start. So I would have fun starting and describing the journey. The quality of the research will depend on your careful assessment (observations, work samples etc - I mean authentic classroom assessment, systematic collection of data) and your insightful analysis!!!!
