Let me start by saying that I'm in awe of all the outstanding educators on this
site.  Your advice, teaching strategies, and passion for teaching are truly
inspiring!
Now for the question.  I am a second year literacy coach in a district that is
not buying into the literacy block required by the state.  (We did not make
AYP.)  Furthermore, the K-4 teachers have gigantic class sizes and lots of
behavior problems, in addition to many, many weak students.  As a result,
teachers seemed to have lost sight of the big picture and their instruction has
become mediocre and one-size-fits-all.
I want to begin an after school study group to reignite the flame for these
teachers.  Any suggestions of where to begin?  Topics I'm thinking of include
comprehension strategies (possibly MOT of STW), vocabulary, readers/writer's
workshop. . .  I'm open to additional ideas and would love to hear how you've
conducted study groups in your buildings.  Thank you!
