Almost all my 7th and 8th graders have read the series. Several of my students
even went to the movies together when it first came out.  Kids are BONKERS over
this.  Some of my 6th graders are even reading it, but I get the feeling
they're not ready for the content.  I haven't read the book yet so it's hard
for me to comment.

I haven't assigned this.  They read these books independently.

It is in wide circulation in our Middle and High School, but to my
knowledge, no teacher is formally instructing the book. NCTE had a terrific
set of guidelines for using the novel in a recent InBox. Anybody have the
link?
