Having  said all this...I am going to ask if we can move back, from here, to

    I think departmentalization is critical to  comprehension strategies. How 
do you know how well your students are  comprehending in content areas if you 
are not their teacher in those content  areas? Some years ago I heard Richard 
Allington speak on  departmentalization research and among other detriments, 
such has less ability  to build classroom and school community, he emphasized 
the research that shows  the amount of off-task time the students have in 
transitioning classes, even if  the teacher is doing the moving. Someone 
mentioned 
it is only a "couple of  minutes a day." Multiply those 10 minutes times 180 
days and you are  talking hours and hours of wasted time! He said in some 
classrooms the  transition was as much as 45 minutes of off task time with each 
move! Maybe  someone can locate the Allington research on the IRA website?
