It's ok to do only 3 choices a day rather than 5, especially at the intermediate grades........
I went to the two sisters sessions at the Colorado Reading Conference. They said that their thinking now is three choices at any grade level since very few teachers have a language arts block beyond 90 minutes. They felt each student should do read to self and the writing choice. If a student was a second language learner, they wanted that child to do listen to reading. Their sessions were very good!
