The district I work with has just put in system 44. It looks like it has the
potential to really help the students who have lexile scores at or below 200.

I am curious to see how the kids will do in the program. AT the moment, 9th
grade students are being considered for Read 44. These are students who still
require on-going intervention. Some are ELL.

I recently saw The Reading Assistant Program in action with 5th and 6th grade
students. It's a computer program, sort of an amped up version of Read
Naturally. The student reads a story on the computer screen and their voice is
recorded for later playback. Each sentence read is highlighted to help provide
focus/phrasing. If a word is misread, it will immediately highlight that word
and give the student the correct pronunciation. Lots of data can be collected
on the student's progress. I didn't see the comprehension part while I was
observing, but I am told that it addresses this as well. You might consider
looking into this. Visually, it looked more appropriate for 3-5th grade. I am
no expert on this program. Just my 2 cents on what I saw. It seemed to have
it's place in the world of intervention as a supplement to quality teacher/
student time.
