In regards to Read 180...I may not be giving it enough credit, so I will 
certainly defer to experienced users, but it appeared to me that it provided a 
structure more than any amazing intervention.  Because students are directed to 
computer work, reading silently, some writing, it provided the teacher an 
opportunity for small group work while the others were busy.  I did hear a 
complaint from a teacher that it gave teachers a false confidence that good 
writing instruction was happening, when in reality it takes much more than was 
provided.

But in the end, as always, it is a teacher knowledgeable about good reading 
instruction that makes the difference.  

I suppose it depends on the skills and needs of the teacher.  Gina
