I read Inkheart aloud to my high ability first graders this year. They loved
it! One child had seen the movie before I started reading. I did "edit" a few
words while I was reading (although I know they probably had heard them all
before), I just didn't feel comfortable reading that vocabulary in my classroom
during a read aloud. I'm sure the book is meant for older students, but the
storyline is so fascinating (I was totally intrigued - especially since the
"gist" of the story is about "reading characters out of the story" into our
world. I am midway through the sequel and also plan to read the third one. It
is a quick adult read for teachers who love books.
