Your notes sound very interesting. I am trying to plan our work for next year around specific comprehension strategies using our basal as the whole group work and then have groups practice the stragey with the below, on, and above readers from our basal series. Then I am hoping kids could give those strategies a try with their self selected AR books.
I tried some of the lessons in the Tanny McGregor comprehension book with great success. I want to begin the year with the Real Reading Salad focus. We also did some major character study work that would be part of this continuum. Then we spent a period of time of non fiction text features. Right now this is still in the simmering stage of development. Your ideas would add great spice to our thinking. My vision is to create a reference board, series of anchor charts that are developed as we learn and practice these strategies.
