What I do with my remedial students is ask them questions about text that
do not have just one definitive answer. I phrase questions with "What
do you think or "Why do you think......, emphasizing to them that there is
no right or wrong answer. They usually feel relaxed and we have some good
sicussions about what we've read.

Hello to all Members,11

My name is Jen and I am new to the site and this is my first posting. Here
is one of the questions that I would like to present to this group. I
pre-student taught in a first grade classroom last semester and keeping them
in
a low-risk environment was easy because everyone wanted to talk and answer
questions. Next semester I will be in a fifth grade classroom; this is my
question how can I keep the class in a low-risk environment? I want them to
feel comfortable to answer questions in class without worrying that they
could be wrong. I also want them to be comfortable with me to talk to about
everything but I do not want them to walk all over me at the same time?
