HI,This is just an idea but - maybe you could have Monday as your mini lesson day - this will not take the whole time of course so they can try it in a short chunk -sometimes I give students a index card (4x6) to get them used to writing a practice chunk and share. Then the next day you could do a quick review and students could begin their writing. Day 3 could keep them writing or starting something new?? I guess it depends on the age of you students.Not sure if this helps, I am not sure what an expert would say about this, but if you only have 30 minutes you have to be flexible. I have the same issues at my school...Good Luck!
