Daily poetry activities with a poem of the week would provide ongoing exposure 
to the concept in a playful and meaningful content.  I agree with those 
reluctant to program-atize simple skills.  By segmentation, do you mean the 
nonsense words?  If the child is reading and applying phonetic understanding in 
the context of meaningful reading experiences, and I do mean to imply directly 
that I don't think much of nonsense words, then I would not be concerned. If 
the child is struggling, the I would look at the work of Marie Clay and her 
Reading Recovery program. There you will find an emphasis on listening for the 
change while working with magnetic letters. Diane Snowball's work on spelling 
may also be very helpful.
