Currently, I am teaching bright 5th graders. My school uses SRA Reading
Mastery, a direct instruction program, however, these students have
completed it. So we are using the McDougal Littell Literature (6th
grade level). In addition to the literature, we are reading a novel
each quarter. I'd like to include a nonfiction selection, and
especially something multicultural, as we have a wide multicultural
population in this school. We really searched for a Hispanic story, but
didn't find anything we were satisfied with. Although these students
are excellent readers, they are 5th graders; and the material needs to
be appropriate for their age. Does anyone have any suggestions of
nonfiction books you have used?
Thank you!
