Currently, I am teaching bright 5th graders. My school uses SRA Reading Mastery, a direct instruction program, however, these students have completed it. So we are using the McDougal Littell Literature (6th grade level). In addition to the literature, we are reading a novel each quarter. I'd like to include a nonfiction selection, and especially something multicultural, as we have a wide multicultural population in this school. We really searched for a Hispanic story, but didn't find anything we were satisfied with. Although these students are excellent readers, they are 5th graders; and the material needs to be appropriate for their age. Does anyone have any suggestions of nonfiction books you have used? Thank you! Jana Reading Teacher America Reads Tutor Coordinator Crete, Nebraska
