At my school my principal fills in where ever she is needed. She's been on recess duty several times during the year, lunch room duty, she's worked the front office, helped out in classrooms, it gave me much more respect for her and her job. Carol M

To me that should be another thing administrators think about with independent reading. Of course basals are a tool but just that. I actually sat in an IEP where a teacher suggested the student take the basal home to read for practice. I laughed to myself because he could hardly read let alone read the basal at 8th grade level. It seems common sense is sometimes lost. Love the discussion!
