And, I think the more we wait to allow teachers to become independent the longer it will take for them to accomplish this later. There is just too much going on in schools, not to mention all the extraneous accountability requirements that have been added since I became a teacher, for new teachers to take the initiative to do this on their own. Yes to do this from the beginning takes time but it is time well worth it with a trusted mentor - another teacher in the building or even on a listserv like this one. Elisa
