Why not try for 15. Really inspire them to read. They can count certain books as two as Donalynn discussed. Will you only see the students for 9 weeks out of the entire year?

But first some background. . I sed the ideas of the required book genre last year with my 8th grade nglish classes. I wasn’t sure about naming a number but I tried it. In ur middle school we have 90 minute blocks. So instead of having the tudents for entire year I only have them for a semester. I arranged he book requirement to be 20 books using similar requirements that onalyn has in her classroom. This went well and most students met equirements without a problem. Of course number of books was not raded (this was a HUGE thing for the students and parents—so glad I idn’t have that as a battle). Anyways, I will be teaching 7th grade reading this year and my classes ill only be a quarter long along with 90 minutes daily. FINALLY the uestion: How many books should be required? The quarter will be 9 weeks nd I thought about 12 books just to push it a bit. I’d love any feedback. Thanks, honda When you have your kids in a self-contained setting, unlike donalyn, you have access to even more of their time. Add to that the fact that your books are short and maybe 50 would be a nice round number. I still am uncomfortable with naming a number with 9 year olds, though. They don't have the experience or maturity to see it as a goal; I'm afraid it would be seen as a version of Race to the Top. _______________________________________________ osaic mailing list [email protected] o unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to ttp://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
