I thought of Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Very good book. Kim Soldatke Axtell Park Middle School Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss

I haven't read it, but I love everything by Margaret Peterson Haddix, so I would expect it's worth looking into. Also, I think Gary Paulsen has written some historical fiction books, hasn't he? True North by Kathryn Lasky about the Underground Railroad. Bandit's Moon takes place in California during the Gold Rush and raises some interesting ideas about stereotypes. Sci fi--The Green Book is the story of a group of people who leave Earth (before an implied disaster strikes the planet)--there's a lot about the choices people make about what to bring (especially books) and about trying to set up a new life on a new planet. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. My dad read several books by Robert Heinlein to me when I was that age. Not all his books would be appropriate but I'm sure some would, and they definitely deal with space. _______________________________________________ Mosaic mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
