I use Great Habits Good Readers and the Daily 5.  I think the program is set up 
so that you can have a balanced literacy block.  We do an independent reading 
time (read to self) for 30 mins and then I have my focus lesson, which is the 
GHGR for 30 mins and independent implementation of the strategy for 10 - 15 
mins and then 30 mins of groups and Daily 5 work.  I have found the programs 
fit with the reading workshop model.   The GHGR lessons take about 3 focus 
lessons, the other 2 days we do Word Study includes vocabulary and 
spelling/words their way and/or a cafe focus lesson.  

It works out nicely, when the kids are working on the D5 they work on a written 
response in their readers notebooks, vocabulary focused packet, reading with 
someone and discussion, word sorts or listen to reading - fluency practice with 
a partner.
