Are any of these test reasonable in price? The teachers would be paying for them themselves.

Two tests which we use to give lexiles are Read About by Scholastic and the NWEA MAP tests. Both of which districts must purchase to use. But, yes, DRA scores can be converted to a lexile score, which isn't an exact score but a range of

This makes sense, just thought I would try. Thank you.

I'd never say never but I doubt it. Lexiles were developed by Scholastic and I
can't imagine there are tests that give that info.

If you have another level such as a guided reading level there are conversion charts that will give you a general range. So if you have a guided reading level or one from DRA you can get an estimated level. Google reading level conversion
chart and you should find it

Tennie, you are saying they decode at a high level but comprehend little or nothing? Can you assess their approximate comprehension level? I would then get books at that level or slightly higher and have them read with you and discuss the story language, themes, make predictions and use all of the Strategies That Work comprehension work (asking questions, visualizing, making connections, etc.) It sounds like they think reading is word calling
and don't have the connection to meaning.

Try www.readworks.org
A free site if you sign up a user account. There's lesson plans
for concepts
of comprehension, reading passages with questions, and recommended read
aloud
book titles and suggested teaching points.
Also, Linda Hoyt's Read Aloud book is great. (not sure what the actual
title
is.)
