We have one per teacher. I like much better than what we used before but there
are different kits one is k-2 and the other 3-5. They are different for the N/M
book that crosses 2nd/3rd kits. If you use this frequently (I do beginning of
year, mid-year below level students, and end of year all) I don't see how you
could share it across a grade level particularly if  you have alot per grade
level. There are non-fiction and fiction which is good too and I like the
stories. There is alot of stuff I don't use such as the phonics and other
lessons at the back of the asssessment book. I also don't use the cd's that
come
with it. I think the most important part of it is the continum of reading which
breaks each level down and tells you what you should be seeing at the level and
possible things to teach. Again this book is different by k-2 and 3-5. I used
the k-2 first and then the 3-5 when moved to 3rd grade. I think the lower books
are much harder than the 3-5 books (at least in 3rd the stories where
much shorter than they were in 2nd grade).  As for how easy to use I didn't
find
it difficult compared to TPRI which is a little different in scoring (don't
know
if you take this or not) or the other reading inventory we used previously.
The difference was in the reading material.

Subject: [MOSAIC] fountas & Pinnell BAS

Hello,

Our school is considering purchasing the latest edition of the Fountas &
Pinnell
Benchmark Assessment System.  We are not sure if we need to order one kit per
classroom, or one kit per grade level (we have 3 classes per grade level)  We
currently use Reading A-Z Running Records and correlate them to F&P, but want
to
know how F&P kit works.  If you use F&P:

Do we need one kit per grade level or one kit per teacher?
Is it easy to use?
Do you use the data management component?
Any information would be appreciated, as it is a huge expense and I want to
make
sure it is worth it.

Thanks,
Jacki
