Love your explanation!  What training/PD was provided to the teachers to help 
them use the material?
We are considering adding Units of Study in our district.

I have a little different view. I don't think it's intended as a script, but 
rather a support for how the lesson might go. I'm finding, as I work with 
teachers who have not had a lot of writing PD...they need that support. The 
learning progressions as an assessment piece does a great job supporting 
meaningful conversations about writing development ... Perhaps it depends on 
how much background teachers have. We are loving it here in my group of 5 
schools that are experimenting with it....
