Hi, Our District is in our first year of implementation of the Calkins Units of Study- and I love them. For the first time- I feel like teachers have tools to teach the craft of writing. It is dense to get through- but the outcome is worth it. By the way- Calkins never meant for the Units of Study to be a scripted program. She always uses the terminology - you may want to ..... The goal is for the assessments (which are fabulous by the way) to guide instruction. In one of her books- she writes- *"As you read all these mini-lessons, remember that they are not meant to be a script for your teaching, but rather, they are meant to convey the story of my teaching, providing one example of how your teaching could go." * *3rd Grade Unit of Study, Unit 1 Page 5* *Cheers,* *Tami*
