Jan, There are two different tests for the CCSS depending on which state you live in (SBAC or PARCC). The SB-FT (Smarter Balanced Field Test) that we are participating in now takes approximately 7 days of testing. There are 4 tests: ELA Non-Performance Task, ELA Performance Task, Math Non-Performance Task and Math Performance Task. The Non-Performance tasks can be given over multiple days (our 3rd and 4th graders are generally taking 2 days to finish, about 60-75 minutes each with logging into the computers, etc.). The Performance Tasks both have classroom activities meant to build common background knowledge, vocabulary, etc. and these take approximately 30 minutes. We are doing these on the same day as one of the Non-Performance tests. Then there is a computer-based session (2 for ELA) that takes about an hour.
Students can take notes online in a notepad that is built in to the testing software or can take notes on paper and pencil. For all tests except the ELA Performance Task the paper notes can not be retained from test to test. I'm not sure about students being unable to refer back to the passages in the reading tests. -- Jennifer Galik Curriculum Specialist (203) 775-7649 Huckleberry Hill Elementary School 100 Candlewood Lake Rd.
