Hi sara
Moses is single threaded so if u want to take advantage of 2 cores, u should
just run 2 moses etc.
On 32-bit machines, a process can only use 2.5gb before it blows up. Sometimes,
the moses decoder uses just under that, especially when running with europarl
trained tables... That's why binarising the phrase table & language model is so
important
I'm not sure on linux if putting more than 4gb helps 'cos the OS may not see
it. This is the case on 32-bit windows
64-bit OS'es are different - the os, and all processes, can utilises as much
memory as u can afford !

We are currently in the process of buying a new computer for running
Moses and associated programs. We are currently running a AMD 64 Athlon
4000+ processor with 4 Gb of RAM and 32 bit Linux (Ubuntu). We have used
Europarl v2 with this computer and feel that it is a bit slow at times.
Now we are planning to work on Europarl v3.
Does anyone know a good configuration for running Moses fast on a single
computer? We plan to keep running Ubuntu, probably 64 bit. Specifically,
how much RAM is needed, and what processor configuration is suitable?
Does Moses benefit from multi-core processors or having two processors?
Do you have other recommendations?
