Hello everyone,

You can now download a preview release of our universal translator for Firefox at http://worldwidelexicon.appspot.com/firelex/wwlbar.xpi Simply download the file, then open the xpi file using the Open File menu (Firefox 3.5 or later). Restart your browser.

Then go to a foreign language site and see what it does. It should auto-detect the language of the page you open, and if translation is needed, it will call WWL to request human translations, and will go to various machine translation services to translate the rest of the texts. Machine translations are shaded with a light blue background, while human edited texts are shaded light yellow or green depending on quality. To edit or replace a translation, just mouse over a text and a popup editor will appear. Submissions will appear within a few moments typically.

Our goal is to make human/machine translation seamless, and part of the browser itself. This test version illustrates the potential of this approach.

We are interested in supporting Moses as part of this, and will be building a version to be bundled with Moses.

Enjoy the new tool, and if you have any feedback, bug reports, etc, send me an email.

Best regards,

Brian McConnell
