Hello,

Brian McConnell from the Worldwide Lexicon here. I wanted to float an idea to make Moses more generally accessible and usable as a web service. If you'd like to get involved, let me know.

We currently offer a machine translation proxy service, accessible via a simple API call to www.worldwidelexicon.org/t (this can be used to return machine, volunteer and professional translations, all via the same API). Repetitive queries are memcached and/or archived permanently to reduce upstream server load. We also store user submitted translations and can echo these to share the translation memory (write backs from professional translators are especially useful).

What I'd like to explore is the idea of creating a moses.worldwidelexicon.org domain that serves as a web directory of Moses servers, and also implements the translation proxy API. Then users can submit requests to a single URL, which in turn are proxied out to the best server for a given language pair. This would encourage people to develop language specific Moses servers, which can then become part of this metaservice.

The cost for us to relay these queries is pretty minimal, so we're glad to support your work, and in turn, promote the long-term growth of open source solutions like this.

If you'd like to discuss I can be reached at the contact points below.
