I don't believe I started motion, but motioneye started it. Can that be right?
And, I started motioneye, the way it said to do on the motioneye wiki...

meyectl startserver -b -c /home/john/motioneye/motioneye.conf

I may have started it as root though. Hmmm...let me stop motioneye and see if
I can start it as user.

Thank you for the hint. I'll get back with any progress.

Okay...I stopped motioneye and watched in ksysguard and motioneye *does* start
and stop motion as it (motioneye) itself is started/stopped. This was as root.

I then started motioneye as user and it started motion and when I took a
snapshot, I was able to delete/do as I please with the file in the directory.

So that was all that was needed. Thank you very much, Colin. That did the
trick perfectly and was nice and simple (too bad I'm a simpleton and hadn't
  thought of it myself, heh).

Great app, by the way, this motioneye.
