Can you provide a sample log that does not open for you?

You can try the method indicated for processing static video files 
(https://motion-project.github.io/motion_config.html#Basic_Setup_Static) 
and instead of using a static file, specify the input to ffmpeg as the 
live source you want to de-interlace.? (Of course also specify the yadif 
filters in the ffmpeg options to suit your needs).

Sorry, ?I don?t understand what you mean? If I open the /var/log/motion file 
the leafpad window comes up but it never opens the log files. I didn?t know if 
something got changed in the Raspian Strech update that?s messing it up??
