Many of the newer IP cameras are POE only. I found passive injectors, but I already have 12VDC at the cameras and I am trying to find adaptors. If you use that local power connection then you do not need a POE network connection, you just need a standard network connection. And most of the issues I have had with power on a lot of devices has been that the cheap power transformers burn out over time as they are generally not well built. The 4-pt 100Mbit POE switches are not that much more expensive over a 4-pt switch.
