Persisitence does pay off, some of the time, anyway. On my 9th or 10th try for the Gyr, I finally found it this afternoon at 4:30 PM. It was sitting on a telephone/power pole on 200th just east of Fischer. It flew momentarily to another pole and then took off south across a field. I followed it by continuing east on 200th, turning right on Goodwin and taking the next right, which was Co. 47 (Northfield Blvd). I saw it again perched in a tree near the side of the road, where I watched it briefly, then a Red-tailed Hawk flew in and the Gyr flew low across the field, away from me, and I lost sight of it. There were scores of ducks in the little bit of water there as well as in the field. (Thanks to Denny and Barb Martin for their post on Mar 12 regarding their sighting of it at Fischer and 200th.)
