Thanks everyone for the response as to where to locate them. Another question: Does anyone have any experience in providing nest boxes for them ? I have read varying info on the web with some sources saying that they regularily use them and others saying they shun nest boxes.
Considering the nationwide decline of red-headed woodpeckers, if they DID use nest boxes, perhaps an effort to provide nest boxes in ideal habitat could stabalize the population. Thanks
