The three GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES at the Fond du Lac Resource Management Division office just west of Cloquet were last reported on the 22nd. Dave Carman and others counted 703 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 353 BALD EAGLES, 10 GOLDEN EAGLES and several other raptors on the 24th at Thompson Hill in west Duluth. Mike Hendrickson saw over 300 TUNDRA SWANS on the 29th at Mud Lake in Gary-New Duluth, and more than 100 at Boy Scout Landing. Mike also found a roosting LONG-EARED OWL in his yard in the Smithville neighborhood of west Duluth on the 26th. Chris Elmgren relocated the NORTHERN HAWK OWL on the 23rd along the Rice Lake Road (CR 4), 0.25 mile north of the Martin Road (CR 9). Warren Nelson and others found two SHORT-EARED OWLS over the weekend along Aitkin County Road 18, about 0.2 mile east of US Highway 169. They also found SNOW GEESE, SANDHILL CRANES, WILSON'S SNIPE, and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. Other recent arrivals in the area include AMERICAN KESTREL on the 22nd, WOOD DUCK, HOODED MERGANSER, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, AMERICAN COOT, KILLDEER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD on the 23rd, TURKEY VULTURE and NORTHERN FLICKER on the 24th, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW on the 25th, AMERICAN WIGEON, BROWN CREEPER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, and SONG SPARROW on the 26th, and PIED-BILLED GREBE on the 29th.
