June 24, 25, 2007 While leading a field trip to Beaver Creek Valley State Park, we encountered the following species.
Dakota County Henslow's Sparrow - 6/24 - 3:40 - 4:00 pm - Three, Henslow's Sparrows were singing at the previously posted location on 215th St W and Laigle Ave. Waseca County Least Bittern - 6/24 - 5:00 - 6:00 pm - A Least Bittern was heard calling at the Moonan WMA. Common Moorhen - 6/25 - 6:30 - 7:00 pm - A single Common Moorhen was observed at the Moonan WMA. It was easily observed by scanning with a spotting scope from the parking area along CR 4. Houston County Whip-poor-will - 9:30 - 11:00 pm - 5 Whip-poor-wills were heard along CR 10, Cut Across Road and CR 4. These roads are North of the town of Sheldon. Acadian Flycatcher - 6:30 - 8:00 am - Beaver Creek Valley State Park - Five Acadian Flycatchers were heard and observed between the picnic shelter and the Plateau Rock trail along the Beaver Creek Valley trail. Louisiana Waterthrush - 7:00 am - Beaver Creek Valley State Park - A single male was observed singing along the Beaver Creek Valley Trail near the junction with the Quarry trail.
