Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter Field Trip Report January 20, 21, 22, 2008
Led a bird watching trip to South Eastern Minnesota, over the last few days. Encountered lots of snow on Monday, but still found lots of interesting birds. Here are some of the species we observed. 20th American Kestrel - several observed along Highway 52, between Coates and Oronoco. Northern Shrike - Dakota County road 42, East of Highway 52. Townsend's Solitaire - 4:15 - 4:20 pm - One bird was relocated at the location reported by Bob Ekblad SE of Oronoco. 21st Merlin - Highway 44, near the town of Bristol Mourning Dove Eastern Screech Owl Barred Owl Northern Shrike Horned Lark Tufted Titmouse - Observed at two locations along Houston County road 5, 1/2 mile West and 1 East of Balentine Road. Snow Bunting Purple Finch - Small numbers were observed in the town of Caledonia. 22nd American Kestrel Mourning Dove Northern Shrike Horned Lark Tufted Titmouse - Houston County, 14 mile South of CR 17, on the West side of Church Road. Eastern Bluebird - Houston County, 6 birds were observed along Ox Trail Road, about 1 mile SW of CR 8 in Lanesboro. Cedar Waxwing - Same location as the Eastern Bluebirds.
