This morning (Aug. 8), there were only 6 shorebird species at Purgatory Creek. (Semi Plovers and Sandpipers, G. Yellowlegs, Killdeer, Spotted Sandpiper, and Least Sandpiper, and another observer saw a Stilt Sandpiper.) The main sandbar in the center is attracting gulls, commorants, and pelicans, and is best viewed from the bridge opposite of the blind in the morning. The newly-formed and extensive mudflats to the north of the sandbar is best viewed from the blind, in the evening. Thanks to Doug Kieser for the update.
I had superb views of a Black-billed Cuckoo at the General Mills Nature Preserve in Golden Valley. Also, if anyone is familar with British birds, or knows of a good online field book, please notify me back-channel. Good birding!
