John Hockema and I found 8 species of shorebirds near Treasure Island Casino in Goodhue County on Sunday. This spot has been OK in past years, but this year the area looks exceptionally good. Last weekend I had about 6 species, but today we had: Killdeer Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Stilt Sandpiper Baird's Sandpiper Least Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Spotted Sandpiper Great Egret (at least 30!) This spot is along the south side of Sturgeon Lake Rd (ie, the road to Treasure Island) just east of it's intersection with County 18 Blvd. I usually park at the sports bar on the north side of Sturgeon Lake Rd, then cross the road.
