I have had a flock of maybe twelve Pine Siskins frequenting my thistle feeders and bird bath since early December. At first I took them to be goldfinches or house finches as they move around so quickly. On the 9th I sat and watched them with field guide and binocs in hand, having moved a feeder to within two feet of the dining room window. It was then that I could finally determine what they are - and today they are very active in the sunshine, along with hairy, downy and red-bellied woodpeckers and of course house and goldfinches, juncos and chickadees.Cardinals heard but not seen. A lovely Christmas morning! Sue on Melody Lake, Edina, Hennepin County
